Ear Ache /​ Pain in Children

All children experience ear pain at some point in their lives but sometimes the pain can be severe or repeat multiple times. Ear pain in children can indicate an ear infection either of the outer ear (ear canal) or middle ear (behind the ear drum). Even though ear infections are common in children they can result in misery for the whole family. They are often associated with hearing loss (see hearing loss in children) which can impact on learning and interaction. Assessment and treatment of the cause can stop the repeated problems and also reduce the chance of long term issues such as scarring of the middle ear and eardrum perforations.
