The nose receives a very good blood supply so it is not surprising that nose bleeds can not only be an inconvenience but also a cause of major blood loss. If nose bleeds become a problem, it is important to establish the cause. There are a number of methods used to stop the bleeding including first aid advice, creams, vaseline, nasal cautery and surgery. Most of the time nose bleeds are dealt with in the clinic and it is rare for someone to need to have an operation for recurrent bleeding.
